About Steven
It was evident at a young age that the hand of God was on Steven. At eleven months old while in a nursery at church he hummed the melody of Amazing Grace. The nursery worker came out with tears streaming down her face as she tried to explain to Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood what their eleven month old baby had done. Steven sang with his mom, dad, and Grandpa from the time he could speak. At the age of three, Steven made the most important decision in his life when he asked Jesus to be his savior and master. Steven has continued serving the Lord and singing in church on a regular basis.
In the summer of 2000 Steven went on an 8 day tour with the Connection Singers under the direction of Greg Weeks. When he returned that year he continued singing and playing at church. Later that year, at the age of 14, he became the worship leader of Fairview Baptist Church, where his father is senior pastor.
In 2002 Steven started a band, God’s Alliance. For the next 3 years God’s Alliance ministered in several local churches as well as MI, OH, and Tennessee. During the summer of 2002 Steven and his sister attended the Steve Hurst School of Music in Nashville, Tennessee. There they excelled in their vocal and song writing abilities as they were coached by some of gospel music’s most sought after artists. It was at this same music school that Steven felt the Lord calling him to more than just singing. At the age of 16, Steven accepted the call to preach.
The end of 2005 brought an end to God’s Alliance as the Sherwood family was sent on a much needed 3 month sabbatical. When they returned Steven was hired on staff at Abundant Life Church, Kokomo, IN, as their worship leader. Around this same time, Steven started spending more time with an acquaintance from high school, Sarah Zody. It didn’t take long for the two of them to realize that they cared for each other in a romantic way. In March 2006 they were engaged and were married that July.
In the year 2007 God lead Steven and Sarah to the Carpenters House Church, Kokomo Indiana, where Steven currently ministers as associate pastor and worship leader.
August 2008 brought Steven and Sarah’s first duet project as there son Josiah Steven was born.
Steven has but one goal in life and that is to please the Lord and be just a small part of His glory filling the earth. Whether ministering in word or song, Steven just wants people to feel God’s presence, be changed by His Glory, and never be the same again. I want to see the church of God set ablaze with a fiery passion and zeal for Jesus that cannot be quenched.
