Burnt Offerings

You might be asking “what is Burn Offering about?” In the Old Testament, when the people would come before the Lord, they would bring an offering (sacrifice). There were several different sacrifices they would bring. There was the grain offering, peace offering, sin offering and burnt offering. The interesting fact is that the first three offerings mentioned were only partial offerings in that only a part of the sacrifice or a portion of the grain would be placed on the altar. However, the burnt offering was the only offering in which the entire sacrifice was placed on the altar. It was also the only offering noted in scripture where the fire of the Lord would supernaturally fall and consume the sacrifice. In fact, I believe that the reason it was called burnt offering was not because it was burnt from fire set by man, but rather, in anticipation of the consuming fire of God falling upon it.

“So, what does this have to do with me?” We know that in the new covenant (A.D.) we do not sacrifice lambs or goats. Romans 12:1 says’ “…present yours bodies a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God…” The question is….. what kind of living sacrifice is the church presenting to God? Is it a sacrifice of partial measure, or is it a sacrifice of totality unto our glorious King? When we present everything we are and possess to Jesus, He will send a fire from Heaven that cannot be quenched or extinguished. It is a fire that consumes whoever it falls on! It sets them aside as Sons and Daughters of the king of Kings and Lord of Lords. Let us not be ashamed of His Name! It’s more than OK to be radical for Jesus. The Christians of the book of Acts had it. That same fire of God still exists today! It is time for every believer to become a burnt offering for Jesus!!!
